    The Training

Peer mentoring is an effective means in addressing bullying, student attendance, academic achievement and positive behaviour. At the heart of any well formatted project is any effective mentor training programme.

The Ethos mentor training programme is central to the whole Peer Mentoring experience, where potential mentors engage in a number of fun, interactive and challenging workshops exploring roles and responsibilities, communication skills and strategies in coping with peer pressure and work output. Potential mentors partake in role-play interactions, real life simulations, video footage observation and reflection; equipping them with the necessary skills and resources to become effectively mentors and coaches. All participants are provided with a training resources pack which includes material for training purposes and resources to be used during actual mentoring.

The training programme also explores the following:

    • Characteristics of a good mentor
    • Trust values and beliefs
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Boundaries and child protection
    • Effective communication and listening skills
    • Setting and achieving goals
    • Overcoming obstacles
    • Sustaining positive relationships
    • Coaching techniques

Training duration can vary depending on programme format. Ethos has devised a number of training frameworks ranging from 1 day to 6 weeks.
